The last snow - part 4

Previously: The last snow - part 3

Sunday night-

“Days are passing by. And the nights are haunting me. Why did you go?”

- I wish you were here.

He closed his dairy for the night and went to his bed. Thinking and wondering about how different it would have been if she was with him forever. Distance was never a problem with them, but the one distance that tore them apart was her death. He sobbed into his pillow and fought his memories till he fell asleep.

Monday morning-

“Come-on, we are getting late.” Roshni was yelling from the garden area of Sneha's house.
“Yeah yeah coming, coming.” Pulling her bag and locking the door of the behind of her. Sneha hurriedly comes to Roshni. “Sorry.” With a puppy face. Roshni laughs looking her face and is forced to say “There's something weird happening. I think it's because of the snowfall happened last night.” Sneha puzzled, “I have no idea what you mean.” “What I mean is today I was on time and you were getting us late. And the cherry on the cake is you are telling me, sorry.” Both giggled. “Aaj khush toh bahut hogi tum..Haye”  Roshni said. “Bade bade shehron mein aisi choti choti baat hoti rehti hain Senorita” Sneha replied. They both broke into laughter and Sneha took some snow in her hands from the roadside when Roshni was too occupied in her laughter and threw it on Roshni. “Ouch!” Roshni screamed. “You are paying for this you idiot!” Roshni was running behind Sneha with ice in her hands to take a cold revenge from her. And they were in a snow fight now.  The girls in twenty were behaving as twelve and for a while they were carefree about being late to college. They were rolling all over the ice, making fun of each other and playing with snow all the time.

Around 20 minutes later they were so tired that they lay down on the snow which covered a part of the side road very near to Sneha's house. They were trying to hold their breaths when Sneha's mom came by and stood straight. Looking them lie down on a random street in the snow, she was a bit agitated, but it vanished soon seeing the joy in their eyes. “Since you girls are behaving like twelve year old's even I should treat you like one, by holding your ears and dragging you home.” Sneha's mom said it with a gentle smile. “No, Mom we are fine here.” Sneha giggled. “Okay, what if I say hot chicken soup is waiting.” Sneha's Mom with a sharp smile. “Ohh...yeah!!!” Sneha and Roshni together. They immediately got up from the ground shrugging off the snow from their dresses they rushed towards Sneha's house. “Sneha.. Do lock the doors I am going to the supermarket. Will be back in an hour.” Sneha's mom managed herself to speak to Sneha who was too busy to listen to. “Yeah Mom..” Sneha pulls Roshni by her hands towards the house. “Bye Aunty..” Roshni waved to Sneha's mom.

Sneha was the only daughter to her parents. Her father was a Business Man who used to be out of station most of the times. He used to come home twice every month to spend time with his family. Initially Sneha didn't like her father staying away from her. But with time she realized it was a necessity, not a choice. Her mother was caring, sweet and loving. She very well managed all the  domestic works and looked after Sneha. They lived in a ground plus one villa with a garden area on the front and a garage in the backyard. Sneha's house was made by her father's hard-work and her mother's support. She knew it and respected it.

They entered the living area of the house which was painted with pleasant pastel green color. A Kashmiri handmade silk carpet covered the floor of the living area. With center table and couches around the wall gave a compact and clean look. There layed two bean bags corner of the room which has been usually Sneha and Roshni's usual destination. Like good old times they dragged the bean bags near the center table and then went to the kitchen which was exactly opposite to the living area to pour themselves hot soup and toast. Sneha took out two large soup bowls while Roshni was arranging toast on a plate. Sneha poured soups and took out soup spoon  for them. They carried the bowls and plate to the center table. And then they bumped into bean bags and took the bowls in their hands. They took the first sip of the soup. “Yumm..” in a unison they broke the silence between them.

Roshni: I wish we never grew up!

Sneha: What makes you say that?

Roshni: I miss those days where this used to be our schedule. Just you and me. This bean bags. Food! Video games! Snow fight!

Sneha: Ohh..
(Busy with her soup)

Roshni: What? Won't you comment anything?

Sneha: It's not that I don't miss it. But I know I can't stop aging.
(Stuffing her mouth with toast) And I just want to finish my studies and start earning to support Dad. I want him to spend more time with us at home. I know and I understand that he is hardworking for my better future, but in all these I also want him to make memories.

Roshni saw Sneha's eyes turning moist. She understood Sneha and her feelings very well. She has always known why she was so studious and craved for marks. Sneha wanted to part of her Dad's business and Roshni knew Sneha would be successful in accomplishing it. To lighten up Sneha's mood Roshni changed the topic.

Roshni: Hey, I forgot to tell you. The university I was talking about remembering?

Sneha: Ya the journalism one, right?
Roshni: Yeah..They have released their admission forms online. It's a two year course and they have good placements. I am thinking I should give it a try.

Sneha: Wow! So your next destination will be Missouri then!

Roshni: Hopefully, if I get the scholarship.

Sneha: You will yaar. I will help you in the preparation.

Roshni: Ya. You have to. And I have one more thing to tell you.

Sneha: Woah...Are you getting married!?
(Her jaws wide open)

Roshni: Nooo..wth! Noo.. You are nuts!
(Sneha laughing aloud.)
Actually, this weekend when I was leaving the church after my prayers I met Rohan.

Sneha: Oh wow.. So you met your prince charming outside of the church. How romantic!

Roshni: Will you just listen first?

Sneha: I want to imagine too.
(With a serious face)

Roshni: You are insane. We just met and I just offered him coffee and momos to our shop. And we had a small talk. Then I just told him not to mention anyone about me getting spotted in church.

Sneha: So you had a date.
(Sneha is trying not to laugh and mock)

Roshni: Why are you interested to hook me up with him? I thought you had eyes for him.

Sneha: No. He has eyes for you. Remember the coffee incident on the canteen. Dude, he was looking cute staring you.

Roshni: Yeah, whatever! Now he is also the one to know my secret.

Sneha: Yeah THE BIG SECRET of Roshni visits Church every Sunday morning hiding herself.
(Laughing out loud)

Roshni gave her the disgusting look. And then the doorbell rang. Sneha's mom was home. That's when they realized that one hour passed by. Sneha's Mom, “So you are girls are bunking college today.” “Yeah..!!” In unison. “Cool.. I will make you guys lunch then. Roshni beta calls you Mom and inform her first that you are here. Okay?” “Okay Aunty.” Roshni replied.

Meanwhile, in college. Rohan was getting bored in the Geometry class where the lecturer was busy explaining about shapes and formulae which Rohan was too bored to pay attention to. He started doodling in his sketch book getting unnoticed from the lecturer. He finished the doodle and that's when the bell rang and the lecture came to an end. He noticed Sneha and Roshni have been missing. He brushed off the thought and said why am I bothered to himself. That's when he remembered Roshni drinking her coffee. Then, spotting her in the hoodie out of the church.

“You have to move on. ” Diya's voice echoed in his ears.
